First Day & FAQs for New Students!

To the 9th graders and transfer students joining us this year – welcome!

Here are answers to some of the questions you may have.

Q: When does the school day start and end?

We start at 9:25am and end either 3:25pm or 4:10pm, depending on the day. Please see our daily schedule!

Q: When is the first day of school? What time will we start and end that day? What can students expect that day?

The first day of school is Thursday, September 7th. We will start at 9:25am and end at 4:10pm.

Students should enter in the building through the entrance on Ludlow Street, which is our school’s main entrance. Upon entering, they will be greeted by school staff who will let them know which room to report to first; it will be their advisor’s room. There, they will receive their schedules, then proceed to the classes listed on their schedules. They will attend 6 classes on the first day.

Q: What do students need to bring for the first day of school? Is there a supplies list?

At the very least, students should be prepared to engage in work on the first day of classes with writing utensils and paper. Please check out the Supply List for other things you can buy in the coming weeks!

Q: Are students allowed off campus for lunch?

Yes, all students are allowed off campus for lunch, although many return to the school building to eat in classrooms (if teachers allow). The school cafeteria also has free lunch for all students and students are welcome to eat there as well.

On the first day of school, we will have a special pizza lunch for 9th graders on the roof. Your advisor will let you know more about it in morning advisory on day 1.

Q: When will I receive my Metrocard and ID card?

Students will receive Metrocards on the first day of school in advisory. They will take pictures for their ID cards sometime in the first week of school. They should receive them by the end of the second week in school.

Q: Is there a dress code?

We do not have uniforms. We encourage students to make responsible choices in dressing appropriate for school. Clothing should cover the body and undergarments appropriately and not impact student engagement or learning.

Q: Do I have a student email address?

Yes! Please see Setting Up Your ESA Account for instructions on how to set up your ESA gmail account. This information will also be emailed to parents.
